Open Lecture by Mr. Dirk Hebecker, Representative of the UNHCR in Japan

On Friday, June 29, Mr. Dirk Hebecker, UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) Representative in Japan, visited AIU for a lecture on “Global Displacement – The Bigger Picture and Japan” and a workshop session with students. Exciting discussions included the global issues of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), the Japanese refugee policy, the role of the UNHCR as an international organization and its limitations.

For AIU to produce future leadership for the international community, cooperation with international organizations is indispensable. This is Mr. Hebecker’s second visit to AIU; it was a great opportunity for the students to see “The Bigger Picture” of the world.
